ION CITY HOTEL
Snuggled in the heart of Reykjavik, the ION City Hotel embodies the traditions and character of Iceland within its meticulous design. The exterior of the hotel retains its original architecture, yet with a contemporary twist. Traditional Icelandic sweater patterns cover the external walls and acknowledge the history of the region. Combining Nordic design with organic materials, the hotel offers a plush escape with views of the city and the surrounding snow-dusted countryside.
Sense of place
The ION City Hotel is located on the historic shopping avenue of Laugavegur, in downtown Reykjavik. Bars, restaurants and galleries are right on the hotel’s doorstep, providing an unrivalled starting point to begin exploring the city.
Rooms at ION City Hotel
The rooms offer Scandi-style comfort with contemporary twists. Sleek leather armchairs and dark metal window frames contrast the natural wood textures on the wall and crisp white bed linen. The theme of soft grey and white flows through the bedrooms, with the occasional pop colour emerging from statement textiles. The rooms are provided with natural light through the expansive windows and display unrivalled views of the skyline or coast, while each of the suites offer balconies and luxurious private saunas.
Food and drink
The hotel’s restaurant, Sumac, serves North African cuisine with Iceland’s Chef of the Year, Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson, at the helm. Rich flavours and spices tantalise the taste buds and make the most ordinary of dishes, such as hummus and falafel, extraordinary. The ION City Hotel’s vibe flows through to the restaurant and bar with a rustic feel, emulated from more natural materials. The bar is already becoming a staple spot among locals and an excellent place for guests to begin or conclude their evening.
Facilities
Come in from the cold of Reykjavik and warm your soul in the private saunas, available in the luxurious suites. There is also a gym, should guests choose to exert themselves in order to warm-up. When seeking that extra level of indulgence, however, the Panoramic Suite offers incredible views of the city and the option of ordering a private chef or bartender to the room, for those guests set on hosting their very own private party.
Activities at ION City Hotel
The ION City acts as a superb base to explore downtown Reykjavik. Cosy eateries, boutique stores and galleries, showcasing the very best Icelandic artwork, are just steps away from the hotel. However, guests can just as easily experience the natural wonder of the Aurora Borealis or the incredible Blue Lagoon by booking tours from the magnificent capital of Iceland.
